Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is the world's most notorious and widely read Gothic novel. It has also been heralded as both the first modern horror novel and the first science fiction novel. More important than either is the novel's mythical status in society. The rich subtext of Frankenstein, and the vast number of readings in can inspire, have contributed to the novel's continued success after nearly 200 years.
This edition also features the complete wood engravings by Lynd Ward. This is the finest reproduction they have seen since their original publication over 70 years ago, and it also the first complete reproduction of the works since that time.
The book is available in two states: a cloth-bound edition with printed silk sides enclosed in a cloth-bound slipcase, limited to 500 numbered copies for $225. There is also an elaborate leather bound, with printed silk panels, edition enclosed in a traycase wrapped in unique and distinctive material. This edition comes with a folder of separate wood engravings by Lynd Ward, each one meticulously printed. They are oversize, 10 x 14 inches, and also enclosed in the traycase. It is limited to 22 copies, all signed by McGrath, and is $1,000.
